Dream Poem

Descending into darkness,
In death or in a dream,
The images… a face, a word,
A place that's yet unseen;

The weight of water heavies,
Embracing me with fear,
The depth, a thought, a chill,
Becomes the lock that keeps me here;

My conscious breath abandoned,
Surrendered to beneath,
A trace, a lurking presence,
A journeys end is my belief;

Suspended in the blackness,
The void envelopes me,
A change, a light, a comfort,
Overcome reality;

My eyes become the witness,
To a wonder pure and rare,
Surprise, relief, a feeling
Without doubt beyond compare;

For what I see before me,
Brings me warmth and clarity,
A hope, a friend, a relation
Delivers immortality;

Possibilities are endless,
With new life as my reward,
A phrase, a laugh, a moment shared,
Carries meaning looking forward;

When temptation draws me upward,
In a resonating quake,
Aware, a sound, an alarm,
Until I realize I'm awake.
