The Art of Lee Hazel offers a window into her
intricate dreams, as well as her passions and interests. Raised in
Austin, Texas, the daughter of an engineering professor, she was
often surrounded by foreign students and representatives of other
cultures. This sparked her desire for travel to study Art history
and to acquire knowledge and ultimately a love of the old masters.
Her interest grew as opportunities led to travel in Europe and Art
school in Paris. The artistic pulse of Paris and the rich history
and romance of the city inspired her to further pursue courses in
Art. She returned to Austin and began formal studies of Art and
earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas. Soon
after completing her studies, Lee began to paint professionally.
Her work exercises two realms of her creativity; one specialty is
in impressionist works in oil on canvas, however her personal work
is a reflection inspired by medieval realism in old world
paintings. Also known for her exceptional portraits, murals and
stained glass work, she keeps a studio in downtown Phoenix, Arizona
where she resides with her husband Nick. " My work is produced from
a need for expression with attention to technical content. I
struggle with it, but find I love the process involved. I often
spend as much time researching legend, lore and the facts, as I do
actually painting. "
